Race Calendar

So as a formerly injured runner, I am beyond excited to be back to running, and I'm all about the bling, baby! So races call my name.  Maybe it's superficial; maybe it's ridiculous, but I have run much further than I would have if I hadn't signed up for and planned for these races.

Star Wars Dark Side Virtual Half Marathon - March 2018

As you will soon find out, I am a huge Disney fan, and am obsessed with the idea of doing a RunDisney race.  I actually signed up for the Princess Half Marathon either last year or the year before, but injured myself pretty badly, so dropped all running and had to let the race pass (luckily no flights had been booked).  As a teacher, I am limited in terms of which RunDisney races I can do (i.e. pretty much none), so I was super excited when I heard on Instagram that they were doing a virtual race.  You don't need to do all 13.1 miles in one go, so I have learned to learn from past mistakes, and just completed it this week in 6 miles plus 7.1 miles.  I wore the shirt to celebrate.  If you're interested, it's still available until the end of the month.  Here's the link: Star Wars Virtual Half Marathon  Race recap to come.

Angus Glen 10 Miler - April 8, 2018

This race is exciting because it's a nice length as I get ready for the Mississauga Half Marathon.  It's also at the swanky Angus Glen golf club, which is famous in Canada for having hosted the Canadian Open.  Plus, the swag looks fantastic.  For doing the 10 Miler you get a medal (bare minimum requirement for me) plus a great looking jacket.  AND there's brunch afterwards.  Now it doesn't get much better than that.  You can bring your family for brunch for a minimal extra cost.  They have a whole running series, but I can't do the summer run.  Here's the link to the whole running series: Angus Glen Running Series

Mississauga Marathon - Pandora Square One Half Marathon, May 9, 2018

I ran the Mississauga 10K in 2014.  It was my first race ever.  And it was phenomenal.  My oldest daughter ran in the Student 10K Relay last year.  And it was phenomenal again.  The race is so well organized, the expo is amazing, and the vibe is friendly and encouraging.  I would highly recommend anyone do any of the events at the Mississauga Marathon weekend.

Combined with the fact that this is practically in my neighbourhood, it makes total sense that this be my first attempt at a Half Marathon.  I'm really, really excited.

Ride to Conquer Cancer - June 9-10, 2018

I will be riding from Toronto to Niagara Falls over two days.  So that's over 200km over two days.  Riding.  On a bike.  Outside.  Not a motorized one.  I am a proud member of Team Sonja.  It is my honour and privilege to ride with Sonja's parents, Nikol and Henry, to honour their beautiful daughter, Sonja, who was unfortunately taken much too early by cancer.

I'm honoured to be part of this team, but at the same time terrified at the thought of riding outside.  On a road.  With cars.  Scary.

If you'd like to donate, I'd be very grateful.  No amount is too big or too small.  Please click here.  Sham's Ride to Conquer Cancer Page

lululemon Waterfront 10K - June 16, 2018

Oh.  My.  Gosh.  I CANNOT wait for this race.  I ran it last year.  It was the inaugural lululemon Waterfront 10K.  The race has existed for many years before that, but never with lululemon as the race sponsor.  Since I love all things lululemon, I, of course, had to run the race.  I figured the shirt would be amazing.  It was.  The whole race was amazing.  I'll post a proper race recap soon.

I'm definitely signing up for this race.  They literally just confirmed the race details the day before yesterday.  It's Saturday this year, June 16th.  Race registration opens at 10AM on March 23, 2018.

Last year, they gave a 25% shopping day for all race participants.  Amazing.  And there was free yoga and donuts at the end of the race.  Magic!

Rock 'n' Roll Marathon, Montreal - September 22-23, 2018

I am cooking up some crazy right here.  I've heard amazing things about this race series, so would love to do one.  The only Rock 'n' Roll race in Canada is in Montreal.  Totally a reasonable driving distance (5 hours!).  So I'm trying to convince my cousin-in-law that she should run the 5K with me, and then I'll do the 2 event challenge.  More to come...

Scotiabank Marathon - October 21, 2018

Again, I'm cooking up crazy right here.  I've heard great things about this race also.  In fact, I was signed up for it two year ago, when I had my injury that sidelined me from running for the last two years.  So I'm definitely going to give this a try.  The crazy question of the day is: half marathon or full?????
